This Week in the Conference World

This past week The AdAge Digital Conference, Radian6 Social 2011 User Conference, Forrester’s Marketing Forum, and Hispanicize 2011 all took place. Each conference provided some great thoughts and insights from leaders in field, some interesting statistics and a few announcements of things to look forward to in the future.

The Ad Age Digital conference, which took place in New York on April 6-7, provided plenty of interesting stats from many of todays top CEO’s and CMO’s, as well as some great insight into the mobile field. Google’s CMO Lorraine Twohill shared that over the course of two days more content had been created on the web than existed in all of 2003. Another interesting stat shared was that women tweet approximately 40 percent more than men. It was also announced that the group text application, GroupMe will partner with the American Cancer Society to help families keep support groups updated with information.

The Radian 6 Social 2011 User Conference took place in Boston on April 7-8, focusing on new developments involving the social listening tool as well as a few discussions on return of investment when dealing with social media. It was announced that Radian 6 will partner with Klout to provide influencer analytics. They will also roll out updates to the engagement console that will provide users with greater flexibility for engaging with customers and consumers.

The Forrester’s Marketing Forum, April 5-6 in San Francisco, provided great insight for businesses trying to attract customers using social media. Jeff Ernst, principal analyst for Forrester, stated that consumers head to social early in the buying cycle to understand their problems and opportunities. It was also predicted that social gaming mechanics will be a huge play for marketers in the coming future.

Hispanicize 2011, held April 6-8 in Los Angeles, focused on Hispanic public relations and social media. A few interesting thoughts coming out of the conference expressed that bloggers can tell a brand’s story better than a brand can, and thus providing bloggers with a positive angle helps tremendously. It was also announced that Hispanic usage of Facebook grew 244 percent last year.
