An Experience of a Lifetime: Special Olympics World Games

Have you ever been so inspired that it's extremely difficult to articulate how you feel?

Well, I have that. Right now.

On behalf of New Media Strategies, I am assisting the social media efforts for Special Olympics International during the World Summer Games in Athens, Greece.  I’m specifically covering the Games from a blog NMS created called Change Thru Sport. It is an amazing experience; my heart has been touched so many times it could last a lifetime. The inspiration these athletes provide and what you witness in how it improves their lives is immeasurable.

Crafting Social Campaigns for Latino Artists and Media Companies

New Media Strategies, Ray-Ban, Two Door Cinema Club & Music Festivals

For our client Ray-Ban, NMS is currently teaming up with GlassNote Records and the award-winning buzz band Two Door Cinema Club to capture Never Hide moments at music festivals around the country this spring and summer. With the Never Hide Ray-Ban brand vision as the backdrop, the band and the NMS production team have been capturing footage from the Ray-Ban cam (sunglasses equipped with a camera) as well as footage from their performances, interviews and other Never Hide moments. Social Watching Services Put Nielsen in Check

It’s May and spring is in full bloom. Your snow boots are boxed away, baseball is back, summer sequels are preparing to invade your local multiplex, and the executives at your favorite television network are about to cancel one of your favorite television shows. Fans of Brothers & Sisters, Human Target, V, Chicago Code, Lie to Me, and other low-rated shows on the cusp of cancellation fret about the future of these programs because they are nearly guaranteed to be shuffled out the door for the limitless potential of the new shows being presented at network upfronts two weeks from today. Many of these low rated shows have a passionate following, so why would networks cancel shows with a vocal fanbase? The answer is simple: low Nielsen ratings.

Social Media Fit for a Queen (or at least a Princess)

As the Royal Wedding approaches (haters stop reading here) I can’t help but take note of the inundation of royal information coming my way, and more importantly the magnitude of the event itself, particularly through its social media presence.

I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Music has famously been called the “universal language of mankind.” It speaks to the soul and has a way of making those who hear it feel connected to all others in an audience and, most importantly, the musician. This connection is essential to being truly moved by music. Social media is also all about the connection. Twitter lets us see what other people are thinking at any time of day in real time. Facebook lets us learn the intentions and interests of friends or total strangers. YouTube gives us a visual glance at everything in the world deemed video-worthy. It seems only natural for the two to become inevitably intertwined; they can compliment, mirror, parody, and augment one another.

Vids or It Didn’t Happen: Grabbing Attention on the Now or Never Web

The entertainment industry was one of the first to truly sprout legs during the dawn of social media. A decade ago, some of NMS’ first campaigns promoted Pokemon and Tomb Raider. So it’s no surprise today’s network execs take social seriously – from both a developmental and promotional viewpoint. But while social data has done wonders to support the industry, in many ways it has also forced artists out of an overproduced, glitzy shell. Direct-to-fan engagement, pushing day-in-the-life content, coupled with the viral video bug it seems every brand has caught, has made YouTube the platform motivating entertainers to think outside the box.
