Cultivating the 3121 Community
One of the greatest things about social media is that it not only accelerates real world connections, but it also adds a human and authentic layer to online activity. In the words of ReadWriteWeb, "social media is bringing back the human element to all digital interaction" -- something that was largely missing from the anonymity-at-worst and mass-market-at-best phenomena of the early Web.
In that spirit, New Media Strategies is proud to join National Journal in helping to launch 3121, along with my team members Bill Beutler, Jessica Boulanger and Patrick Ottenhoff. What is 3121?
National Journal Group's 3121 is a professional network of and for people who work on Capitol Hill. An extension and key feature of NationalJournal.com, 3121 offers three dimensions to accelerate connections, facilitate collaboration and enable accurate contact-related research....
- 3121 is a dynamic directory: this means that in addition to having the information that we can provide you at National Journal, community members are able to update their own profiles. This makes users constantly accessible, so you’ll know who moved from HELP to Foreign Relations right when it happens.
- 3121 is also a tool for collaboration: through our recommendation engine and with flexible, easy to navigate group pages, 3121 acts as a tool to help people better connect with relevant staffers to get their job done.
- 3121 puts you in control and allows for a customizable dashboard and customized news. The more you get to know the system and the more we get to know you, the more 3121 will rearrange and deliver you what you need, when and where you need it. From news on your issue and Member, to positioning your own profile and collaboration tools front and center, we give you what you need to make it your own.
Through Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, email and good-old-fashioned phone calls and face-time, we look forward to talking with the 3121 community, area bloggers, Twitterers and members of the media who are interested in learning more about the project, the process and the promise of 3121. With journalism, politics and social media in our backgrounds and on the top of our minds, we're enthusiastic about being on the National Journal team and supporters of the 3121 community.
