The Social Traveler

My job here at NMS involves frequent travel and it’s a lifestyle I’ve come to embrace. Reflecting back on a busy quarter of numerous trips across the country, I have seen that the same forces changing the way we communicate are also changing the way we get from place to place. With a mobile web always at our fingertips, the world is adopting social media to discover, consume, and process information in new ways.

REACTION: Kenneth Cole’s Twitter Fiasco Is More Than A Social Media PR Lesson

Today, the internet was set abuzz over tweet from clothing designer Kenneth Cole that sent the web into an uproar. In a failed attempt to use current events to push his clothing line, Cole tweeted, “Millions are in uproar in #Cairo. Rumor is they heard our new spring collection is now available online at http://bit.ly/KCairo -KC." Not only is the tweet extremely insensitive to the currently crisis in Egypt, but to use the #Cairo hashtag that protesters in Egypt are using to spread awareness about the events there? I was crushed, and took my sadness to Twitter. Meanwhile at NMS, our resident Nats fan Laura was wondering if she could still try the Strasburger and I had to report to her the unfortunate news that our dreams of a cheeseburger topped hot dogs and 14 pickles would never come true. Or so we thought until BGR found our twitter conversation and came to the rescue.

I Don’t Know Where Social Media Will Be In Ten Years (But It Doesn’t Matter)

I recently wrote about my first networking event last week. At that event a gentleman asked me about what I did and told him about my work and my life as a blogger. He nodded attentively and then asked what’s going to happen after the big social media craze goes away. In my mind I couldn’t help but think, “SOCIAL MEDIA IS NOT A FAD!”
